ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This curriculum guide has been made possible by the Department of Energy Teacher Research Associates, (TRAC) program. One of us (RWD) would like to thank the Department of Energy (DOE), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Martin Marietta Energy Systems for providing me the opportunity to participate in the 1993 Teacher Research Associates Program.

This handbook was written during the summer of 1993 at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. RWD would like to thank members of the Superconductivity group in the Solid State Division for their kind and friendly hospitality. We are very grateful to the many people who helped with written or oral comments this summer. In particular we thank David Christen, Ron Feenstra, Bob Hawsey, Charles Klabunde, Milind Kunchur and Jim Thompson. Additional helpful comments were provided by Linda Cain, Michael Childers, Jacquelyn Jacoby, and John Roberts. During the summer of 1994, Thomas H. Sharp assisted with final corrections. In addition Robert P. Effler of the Instrumentation and Controls Division designed the ramping current source and discussed electronic issues.
